Toronto Islands Engagement Session: Claire & Darrin
I am so excited to be sharing Claire and Darrin’s engagement session from last fall. The cold weather had just begun to descend on our city, but that didn’t stop these two from having a great time together exploring Ward Island, one of the several islands off the coast of Toronto’s downtown. The quiet and empty island with its cute little cottages and lit alleyways provided for an intimate setting for our session.
This session is also a testament to the fact that you can have a great time in any weather conditions. Claire, Darrin and I had scheduled our session for the afternoon, timing it with the sunset. I had visions of sun soaked beach images with the Toronto skyline in the background. The day of the session arrived and our sunset plans got carried away with wind and rain. Cold wind and rain for that matter. Nonetheless, we stuck it out – Claire and Darrin were troopers! – and we managed to turn our not so desirable weather conditions into a fun and romantic session. So if you are planning a photo session or a wedding and are worried about the weather, don’t forget that rain can be your friend. It’s all about getting creative and making the most of what you have.
This is my favorite image from the entire session. Their expressions, their comfort with each other, the scenery… I adore it. It was even my desktop background for a while.
Ward Island had a bit of a magical ambiance during our session. Maybe it was the rainy weather, or the tall pines and dimly lit alleyways. Nevertheless, I could see some mythical stories written about the islands, with otherworldly creatures and events.
